Email from Mrs. Guiles, Temecula Valley Young Marines

Hello from Washington DC! Our first Email out. Temecula, East Valley and San Bernardino arrived safely.
We've had a few challenges with our 9 van caravan, they have alot of intersecting freeways here that split from the left and right. It's crazy, half the challenge is getting everyone to their destination. But once we get there, it's all awesome!
Today we were invited to share in the celebration of the Marine Corps 230th Birthday  Ceremonies in Fort McNair, at the National War College!(Colonel Powell was a graduate from the National War College) Our own Lt. Col Dave Gass was one of the participants in the Color Guard.  It was AMAZING. We also had a tour of the National Defense University.
I'm going to keep this short and sweet, Your Young Marine will have an opportunity to call home tonight on a phone, in a room with an adult. Ask them about the Ceremony today, the National War College, and ask them about the Lincoln Conspirators and Mary?....They should have lots to talk about. Until next time,

Ok... Young Marine Families....we've been buzy and it's been hit & miss with the internet. It's Friday already , let me give you an idea of what we've done.
Tuesday we went to Arlington and laid the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Space Shuttle Missions, Womens Memorial, and visited Lee's home....Civil War Memorials, the USS Maine, and the Eternal Flame of JFK. We went to the Marine Corps Memorial (Iwo Jima) The Vietnam Memorial, Korean Memorial, WWII Memorial, FDR's Memorial,
The next day we went to the Union Station, Senators Issa's Office, Toured the Capital, laid a wreath at the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial and the Visitors Center.
Yesterday (Thursday) we participated in the Vietnam Wall Ceremonies for Veterans Day, John Paul Jones Memorial, then we attempted to go to the Smithsonian and basically...toured the parking facility...we ended up making friends with some DC Police and parked all 9 vans in front of the Capital and took some awesome battalion, company, family, and individual pictures in front of the Capital.  Then we headed back to the hotel for our Young Marines Ball. We had guests from National Headquarters and had a nice dinner.
TODAY we had a surprise fron Battalion Commander Guiles...we drove to Baltimore Maryland to tour the United States Naval Medical Ship COMFORT (it recently returned from the Gulf Course, Katrina and Rita) Very Cool.....over 1,000 beds!
So we're back to pack up, we're going out again to see the Smithsonian's...we'll be back late tonight. We will be up at 2:00am, to leave at 3:00am, we have to be at Dulles Airport at 4:30am.........
East valley Young Marines will be at 10:00am on Flight #471 from Denver. They will see you tomorrow! Lots of stories and pictures and new made memories to share.
